The opening introduction sequence in Fallout 4 is a live-action CGI official short film detailing the life of a soldier called Nate (Sole Survivor) in the US Army. The film was produced by Gnet and directed by David Moodie.

The Hatch - LOST TV Series Reference

Between the National Guard Training Yard and Revere Beach Satellite Array, you'll find an NPC preparing to place an explosive incendiary device on a bunker door. He asks you, the Sole Survivor, to stand back and to not come any closer. This is pretty much a direct reference to the final 24th Episode in Season 1 of ABC's LOST.

The GOAT Test - Fallout 3 Game Reference

Before you can "safely" enter the settlement of Covenant, you'll need to complete The SAFE Test, which is a reference to The GOAT Test from Fallout 3 and also a reference to The Voight-Kampff Test seen in 1982 obscure sci-fi detective film Blade Runner.

The Freedom Trail - Real Life Reference

Parts of the real life Freedom Trail appear throughout The Railroad faction main quest "Road To Freedom". You can continue the path of The Freedom Trail which goes past the Old North Church and into the City of Charlestown and ending at The First Public Church of Boston.

Reilly's Ranger Corps - Fallout 3 Game Reference

A trophy in Fallout 4 called "Ranger Corps" is a direct reference to Reilly's Ranger Corps in Fallout 3. Upon after discovery of 100 locations the trophy will unlock.
A radiant repeatable quest in Fallout 3 called "Geomapping With Reilly" sees Reilly's Ranger Corps asking you to clear out any location from around the Washington, DC. area of which after a location has been cleared out you'll receive 30 caps as payment upon completion of the quest.

Nostromo Starship Digital ID Readout - Alien (1979) Film Reference

A reference to the film Alien is hidden away in an obscure Junk object called Flux Sensor. The Flux Sensor has an imprinted serial number on the reverse side of the object. The serial number turns out to be the digital readout for the ID for the starship Nostromo which is the setting for the sci-fi fantasy action 1979 film Alien.

The Holotape game Atomic Command is a direct reference to the 8 Bit classic retro arcade game called Missile Command.


Pipfall - Pitfall Game Reference

The Holotape game Pipfall is a direct reference to the 8 Bit classic retro arcade game called Pitfall.


Grognak & The Ruby Ruins - Bard's Tale Ultima Game Reference

The Holotape game Grognak & The Ruby Ruins is a direct reference to the 8 Bit classic retro arcade game called Bard's Tale Ultima.


Zeta Invaders - Space Invaders Game Reference

The Holotape game Zeta Invaders is a direct reference to the 8 Bit classic retro arcade game called Space Invaders.

The Holotape game Red Menace is a direct reference to the 8 Bit classic retro arcade game called Donkey Kong.


Red Menace Meaning

The term Red Menace refers to Russia, as seen on select posters throughout the game and also available as posters for adding to your own Settlements.


Death Scene - JAWS (1975) Film Reference

There is a large boat on the waters near Oberland Station (Settlement). On the boat, you'll see a corpse and a large sea creature inside. You can find a Machete weapon near the corpse on the ground. This is laid out the same as the death scene from the popular 1975 action thriller film JAWS.

Ted On The Toilet - Ted (2012) Film Reference

In Back Street Apparel, you'll notice a Teddy Bear wearing Glasses pretending to read a Newspaper while sitting on the toilet in one of the nearby bathrooms. This is a direct reference to the talking teddy bear Ted who does the same thing in the 2012 comedy film Ted.

The Institute Courser Outfit and Black Synth Courser NPCs in Fallout 4 are a direct reference to the Grammaton Cleric Outfit and the character Andrew Brandt in the dystopian futurism sci-fi gun-fu action 2002 film Equilibrium.

Main Theme From Fallout 3 - Fallout 3 Game Reference

The Main Theme from Fallout 3 has been re-envisioned in a cinematic soundscape. You’ll find this theme is called “Fallout 4 Main Theme (Spinner Mix)” by Inon Zur.

I Thought The Moon Was Made Of Cheese Quote - Wallace & Gromit In A Grand Day Out (1989) Film Reference

The quote said by NPCs throughout the Nuka-World Amusement Park is an obvious reference to the animated 1989 film Wallace & Gromit In A Grand Day Out as Wallace believes the Moon is made of cheese. If you place the gang called The Pack in the area called The Galactic Zone, The Pack NPC characters say this quote when you are stood next to them.


Tribute To Fallout 4 Gamer Who Passed Away - Real Life Reference

Redditor NoohjXLVII posted on his Reddit profile about how Fallout 4 helped with the tragedy of his father's passing. People at Bethesda Softworks planned to send a Care Package to the family, but NoohjXLVII's brother passed away before the package could be sent. As a way of paying tribute, Bethesda developers promised to include an NPC named after NoohjXLVII's brother, of which he appears in the addon Nuka-World as "Good Guy Evan" with his own Unmarked Quest called Meet Good Guy Evan At Evan's Home".
